On October 15-16, 2009, Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago hosted a scientific conference on the American Polish community.
This conference was attended by well-known Chicago and Polish politicians, academics and numerous invited delegations from Poland.
Among the many topics discussed, special attention was paid to issues concerning the state of education of the Polish community, including the functioning of Polish Saturday Schools.
In order to familiarize the guests from Poland with the system of work, the methods used and the materials used in Saturday schools of the Polish language, Ms. Alicja Kuklinska, vice president of the Polish Teachers Association in Chicago and teacher of the second grade of high school, invited two, Polish delegations to our school.
The first delegation from the Polish Community Association was led by Mr. Maciej Płażyński, the second, from the Podlaskie Voivodeship, by the Mayor of the City of Białystok, Professor Tadeusz Truskolaski, and the Chairman of the City Council, Mr. Włodzimierz Leszek Kusak.
During their visit, the esteemed guests had the opportunity to see the textbooks used by the students, visit the course of classes
in classrooms at different levels, talk in Polish with students, exchange reflections with educators.
Polish School named after him. Gen. Kazimierz Pulaski School in Harwood Heights, IL is one of the oldest Polish schools in the Chicago metropolitan area.
In 2011, the school will celebrate its 60th anniversary.
Saturday’s visit by guests from Poland was also an excellent opportunity to celebrate National Education Day together with the teaching staff and school board.
