A train is coming from afar …
The well-known words of songs sung by amused children from all of us from childhood have died down. The shiny white and blue stars that adorned the ballroom have already been hidden. A colorful procession of little costumed men also stopped, rushing merrily down the school corridor in an imaginary train. Now we will continue in a kind of anticipation for the next ball until next year.
As always, in February the Polish School im. Gen. K. Pulaski in Harwood Heights, IL organized an annual costume ball.
Everyone was invited to this well-known and recognized event in the Polish community, not only children studying at this school.
Children taking part in the ball were accompanied by their parents watching their children play.
Parents at specially reserved tables could talk to friends, order an afternoon snack, eat a cake or drink coffee or tea.
Tangles, games and games were conducted by teachers teaching at all levels.
Dancing in pairs on shrinking newspapers, racing around the decreasing number of chairs or passing under a systematically decreasing rope are the most attractive of games.
Among the great fun, dressed in multi-colored costumes were recognizable characters from various well-known fairy tales and movies: spider man, kitty cat, princesses, pirates, ladybugs, butterflies, bees, Star Wars heroes, policemen and even the devil.
In the break between games, the children were invited for pizza and juice.
An attraction organized especially for adults was a great raffle.
The sponsors of the valuable lottery prizes and school fun were both private individuals: Christopher and Agnieszka Dobrzycki, Grażyna Rola, Magdalena Rzeźnik, Barbara and Kazimierz Cieślak, Agnieszka Gubas, Henry Majcher, Iwona Petryszak, Piotr and Agnieszka Sosna, Beata Iwan, Elżbieta Górnikiewicz, Anna Rożko,
as well as well-known companies in the Chicago agglomeration: Law Offices of Kurasch & Klein, Ltd., WDT Company, Figiel Law Offices, Ltd., Idea Furniture – Agnieszka and Marek Kowalczyk, Nail Spa & Design, Montrose Deli, Endy’s Deli, Old Warsaw, N&T Construction, Chicago Porch Company Teresa I Lester Macharzynski and the teaching staff and management of the Gen. Kazimierz Pulaski Polish School.
Throughout the event, in a special point, just before entering the main hall, four girls from high school classes painted colorful stamps and symbols on their cheeks and hands for interested Milusiński. Templates of paintings that could be painted were laid out for inspection by those interested.
At the point opposite the paintings, children could draw fantasies in a special lottery for
children, in which every empty ticket was rewarded with delicious chocolate sweets.
Teachers, parents, lovers and friends of the school and its students, working as volunteers during the ball, were actively involved in the preparation and conduct of the ball. Thank you to all these people!
After our ball, beautiful memories remained. They will accompany us until next year.
