We all know Zofia Biernadska as a wonderful, full of energy and warmth woman who devotes her free time to our school. It is thanks to her work and invaluable tips that our little actors stage “Nativity play” every year, or other school performances. But not all of us who see Zofia at school know that this nice person survived one of the four mass deportations of Polish citizens deep into the Soviet Union in 1940/1941. She experienced the hell of World War II, taking part in the Italian campaign – the Battle of Monte Cassino of the 2nd Polish Corps commanded by Gen. Władysław Anders.
On May 10, 2014, the Polish School of Polish School Gen. Casimir Pulaski had the honor of hosting Ms. Zofia Biernadska in a completely different role within her walls. As a veteran of World War II and an exile of Soviet gulags. During her multimedia presentation, Zofia in an extremely interesting way told the gathered school youth about herself, her relatives and the fate of other Polish citizens deported in 1940/1941 to the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. She outlined the circumstances in which she joined the Gen. Anders of the Polish Army and what function she performed in the army. She also presented a picture of one of the most fierce, heroic and bloody battles of World War II, in which a soldier of the Polish took part, the Battle of Monte Cassino.
Zofia, we would like to thank you once again for this “living history lesson” in which we could participate and for awarding diplomas and awards to the winners of the school’s historical competition.
We invite you to the photo gallery from this meeting.
