”Balladyna” by J.Slowacki – how lessons at a Polish school can be made more interesting by combining learning with fun. 03-24-2012

On March 24, 2012, class VIII prepared a staging of the work of Juliusz Słowacki entitled “Balladyna”. It is a story that tells the fate of two sisters: Balladyna (played by Marcelina Puc) and Alina (played by Kamila Czachorowski and Lila Radzik). The sisters and their Mother(Natalia Gorlicki) live in a forest cottage on Lake Gopło . And behold, the beautiful prince Kirkor(Nikolai Sander ) arrives at their home, he, enchanted by the beauty of the girls, decides to marry one of them. To settle , which of the sisters will become queen, Alina and Balladyna go to the forest where they are to pick a jug of raspberries. The one who returns home first with a full jug will become Kirkor’s wife. Balladine, seeing that she will not be able to defeat Alina, kills her sister . A lavish wedding is held, Balladyna becomes Kirkor’s wife and mistress in his castle. She takes her mother with her, but is ashamed of her origins, and soon her mother dies at the hands of a cruel queen who, in her quest for power, murders all who stand in her way. At the climax, Balladyna dies being struck by lightning(Piotrek Cabaj).
Particularly noteworthy are our wonderful narrators and supporting characters of the play : Patryk Plewa, Krystian Żądło , Dominik Radzik and Mateusz Filipkowski. Daniel Koltys, Marcin Greś and Piotr Cabaj were responsible for special effects. The scenery and costumes were the result of teamwork by Class VIII. We would like to thank the wonderful audience from grades 3 and 5, who rewarded the performance with thunderous applause.
