Chopin in our hearts – 01.24.10

That is, about a trip of high school classes to the Chicago Philharmonic Orchestra

Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849), one of the greatest artists in the history of Polish culture, the most outstanding Polish composer, and the world’s leading pianist and representative of music of the Romantic period.
He is sometimes called the poet of the piano. Although he is one of the most widely played composers of piano music, his works require excellent technique and virtuosity from the performer. At the root of his work is a great artistic sensitivity and the ability to draw patterns from Polish folk music. Frederic Chopin is an artist who played a unique role in shaping our national consciousness. The year 2010 marks the bicentennial of the birth of this prominent figure. The Sejm of the Republic of Poland, convinced of the special importance of his artistic achievements for the national and world heritage, declared 2010 the Year of Frederic Chopin.

On Saturday, March 27, Orchestra Hall in Chicago hosted young people from Polish schools and their educators for a concert titled “The Polish Schools. “Chopin in my heart” on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of Frederic Chopin’s birth. This beautiful event was organized by the Paderewski Symphony Orchestra. The program featured some of the most beautiful works of our great composer and pianist composed before Chopin turned 18. The orchestra was conducted by its Music Director Wojciech Niewrzol. The soloist at the concert was one of the most outstanding Polish pianists of Polish descent, Piotr Banasik. The young people beautifully received Chopin’s music in attention and silence, listening to his works and rewarding the artists with thunderous applause. The performers of Chopin’s songs were Miroslawa Sojka-Topor and Jozef Homik, well-known in Chicago. The music was interspersed with poetry by Wanda Chotomska in recitation by Agata Paleczny and Krzysztof Arsenowicz, and a performance by the “Wici” band.
The high school students of the S. M. K. School. Gen. K. Pulaski was extremely pleased to have the opportunity to participate in this remarkable cultural event.
For some of them, it was certainly the first opportunity both to be in a real philharmonic hall and to listen to Chopin’s music live, performed by a large symphony orchestra, in the beautiful hall of the Chicago Philharmonic.
Despite the passage of years, the beauty of Frédéric Chopin’s music continues to arouse the sensitivity of successive generations of young people, impresses with its beauty, simplicity, originality, and awakens national pride in us Poles.
