On Saturday, May 1, 2010, at 11:30 a.m., the one hundred and nineteenth May 3 Parade began. The president of the Highlanders Union was this year’s Parade Marshal.
However, this time she was different than usual. All because of the Smolensk disaster. This year’s celebration was held in a tone of thoughtfulness and reflection.
The red and white flags were decorated with black ribbons. The parade began with scouts carrying portraits of the victims of the tragedy. Major of the City of Chicago Richard M. Daley, who was present at the ceremony, remembered the tragically deceased Polish President. Lech Kaczynski was to be the parade’s guest of honor. The place prepared for the presidential couple was empty….
A concert in memory of the victims of the April10, 2010 disaster was held at Millenium Park.
The tradition of the Polish School named after him. Gen. Kazimierz Pulaski is to participate in important Polish events. Our school was represented by the School Board, the teaching staff, parents and, above all, students. The delegation included more than 100 people.
At 10:30 am, 2 buses left the school. The students wore T-shirts in the national colors with the image of the school’s patron Casimir Pulaski.
They awaited the march of our large group with pride and emotion. This year we marched as the 86th group of the May 3 Parade. The youngest participants were children in strollers who took part in the festivities accompanied by their parents.
During the parade, students were given lollipops, while sandwiches and drinks were already waiting for them when they returned to school.
Beautiful weather accompanied us throughout the day. For many students, it was an unforgettable experience.
