The first congress of the postgraduate course in teaching Polish as a foreign language was held in Schaumburg, IL from February 6-14, 2010.
The postgraduate study in Chicago was organized thanks to the efforts of the president of the Polish School named after him. Nicolaus Copernicus – Mr. Zbigniew Piwoni, and Ms. Jolanta Harrison, president of the Board of Directors of the Polish Nicholas Copernicus School. Emilia Plater in Schaumburg.
The convention was attended by 50 female teachers from 12 Polish schools in the Chicago metropolitan area.
During the first convention, classes were held on:
Methodology – conducted by Ms. Dr. Anna Butcher,
Phonetics – conducted by Ms. Barbara Karczmarczuk, MA,
Polish language culture – conducted by prof. Jan Mazur.
The students have already completed their first phonetics exam, which was passed by all.
On February 12, 2010, a commencement ceremony took place at the Consulate of the Republic of Poland in Chicago for the first postgraduate qualification program in teaching Polish as a foreign language at Maria Curie-Sklodowska University in Lublin.
On this occasion, Consul Aleksandra Krystek welcomed many esteemed guests: His Magnificence, Rector of UMCS prof. dr. hab. Andrzej Dabrowski, director of the Center for Polish Language and Culture for Polonia and Foreigners -.
– prof. dr. hab. Jan Mazur, sponsors Mr. Grzegorz Popielarz of the Polish Community Association, Mr. Walter Kotaba, representatives of the Polish National Alliance and the state department of the Polish American Congress, and students of the study.

A graduation ceremony for the first edition of the study is expected on October 16, 2011.
