On November 3, Northeastern University together with the Council of Polish Teachers as part of the Polish Heritage Month during a solemn gala honored Mrs. Ewa Jabłońska with the prestigious “Teacher of the Year” award. Mrs. Ewa Jabłońska is currently a class 7 teacher at the School of Excellence. Gen. Pulaski in Harwood Heights, as well as a math teacher at Roosevelt High School in Chicago. She is also involved in coordination and volunteering in Polish diaspora organizations, and for her activities she received the title of “Teacher of the Year” in 2010. In her inspiring speech, she summarized her professional career and thanked those close to her, her mentors and her supportive family. In addition to Ewa Jabłońska, Christina Ciecierski, a lecturer at Northeastern University, Lucyna Migała, founder of the song and dance ensemble “Lira”, meritorious in promoting Polish culture, as well as Michalina Maliszewska, who works for equal access to education around the world, were also awarded. Awards were also given to a group of students from various universities for writing an essay about Tadeusz Kościuszko understood as a hero of two nations.
The guest of honor of the evening was Vice-Consul Piotr Semeniuk, the ceremony was led by Prof. Lidia Filus, and the whole was graced by the quartet of the “Lira” ensemble with a repertoire related to the figure of Tadeusz Kościuszko, the patron of this year’s program.
